August saw the opening of the Pacific View Arts Center in downtown Encinitas after nearly a decade of work to rehabilitate the former elementary school site.
Located at 380 W. F St., registration is now open for a variety of activities from visual and performing arts to literary, multimedia and specialty classes and workshops. Go to the city’s activities website for a full list of current and upcoming offerings at the new center.

Encinitas
Now through Aug. 29: Summer Nights at the Botanic Garden — Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature in the evening thanks to extended hours at the San Diego Botanic Garden on select Thursdays throughout August. Find out more about this season’s remaining events at the garden’s Summer Nights page.
Aug. 21: Stefani Stevens Band — The city of Encinitas’ free concert series features the Stefani Stevens Band, who will perform a combination of Motown, soulful originals, jazz, blues, pop and Brazilian music, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive. Aug. 25: LeucadiART Walk — Join the Leucadia 101 Mainstreet for the 18th annual LeucadiART Walk from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The free event runs along North Coast Highway 101 from 185 Union St. and features live art demos, live music, dancers and children’s activities, in addition to a makers market and beer garden. Aug. 27: Taste of Encinitas — Join the Encinitas 101 Mainstreet Association for its annual Taste of Encinitas from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., featuring 16 participating restaurants and 18 sip stops. Carlsbad
Now through Sept. 15: “8-TRACK: The Sounds of the ’70s” — New Village Arts launches its 23rd season with “8-TRACK: The Sounds of the ’70s,” celebrating the groundbreaking music of the 1970s. Aug. 24: Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Discovery Gala — The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation hosts its Discovery Gala 2024 with a Rat-Pack theme starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa’s Atrium Room, 5480 Grand Pacific Drive. Aug. 25: Aviara Texas Invitational Golf Tournament — Carlsbad nonprofit Kids for Peace holds its fourth annual Aviara Texas Invitational Golf Tournament at the Aviara Golf Club starting at 1 p.m.. Oceanside
Aug. 21: Job Fair — The Oceanside Public Library hosts its annual Job Fair, in collaboration with the San Diego Workforce Partnership, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Oceanside Civic Center, 330 N. Coast Highway. The job fair will feature more than 40 employers from a range of industries and may include onsite interviews. More information is available at the event website.
Aug. 24-Sept. 1: Sunflower and Fall Flower Festival — The Mellano Farm Stand hosts its Sunflower and Fall Flower Festival from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., focusing on all things flowers, food, music and farm fun. Sept. 2: Oceanside Labor Day Pier Swim — The Oceanside Labor Day Pier Swim marks its 95th year with an annual 1-mile swim from 5:30 a.m. to noon that begins and ends on the beach, going around the Oceanside Pier. Registration and more information is available at labordaypierswim.com.
Vista
Now through Aug. 31: “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” — Moonlight Stage Productions continues its production of “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,” which tells the story of singer/songwriter Carole King’s life and career. Show time is 8 p.m. The Moonlight Amphitheatre is located at 1250 Vale Terrace Drive. Tickets can be reserved at the show’s event page.
Aug. 24: E-bike safety class — The city of Vista and San Diego Bicycle Coalition hold an e-bike safety class from 9 a.m. to noon at the Vista Civic Center, 200 Civic Center Drive. Participants must be 10 years of age or older, and the program is recommended for children between the ages of 10 and 14. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
