A man believed to be an Encinitas resident died in a bicycle mishap just after midnight Sunday, March 17, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station responded to a bicyclist down in the 2700 block of South Coast Highway 101 in Cardiff at 12:07 a.m., according to authorities. Paramedics and deputies attempted life-saving measures, but the man died at the scene.
The 48-year-old man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives, although he was believed to be a resident of Encinitas, the Sheriff’s Department reported.
Authorities stated that there was no evidence of a collision with a vehicle, and it was not known whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the incident. An investigation is ongoing.
