A man was killed when he was struck by a freight train in Encinitas late Saturday, Jan. 13, authorities reported.
The incident happened at about 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Vulcan Avenue and D Street, a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department incident report stated. The man, who was not identified, was hit by a BNSF freight train.
Deputies from the sheriff’s North Coastal Station in Encinitas handed the investigation to the department’s Transit Enforcement Unit, which covers incidents along North County Transit District rail routes, which BNSF uses.
The Medical Examiner’s Office is also investigating the man’s death.
