Access to Stonesteps Beach in Encinitas will be hindered again as crews finalize repairs to infrastructure, the city recently announced.
The beach’s cliffside stairway, which was damaged during heavy rains last winter and required closure and repair for several months, will be closed again through Sept. 15.
The steps were first closed on Jan. 11 after the stairway platform and support beam were determined as “structurally compromised and unsafe” by the city’s structural engineer and contractor. Repairs required months of work, culminating in a reopening on June 21.
In an Aug. 28 update announcing the new closure, city officials recommended that beachgoers use Beacon’s or Moonlight access points until the finishing touches were completed.
