San Diego County sheriff’s deputies made four arrests in Encinitas for suspected driving under the influence during a June 30 checkpoint.
About 600 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which ran from 8 p.m. to midnight in the 1800 block of South Coast Highway 101, according to a Sheriff’s Department report. Of those vehicles, 196 were brought into the checkpoint and 22 were sent to further inspection.
Out of 12 evaluations for suspected DUI, three arrests were made on suspicion of DUI for alcohol and one was made on suspicion of DUI for drugs, the department reported. In addition, one driver was cited for operating an unlicensed vehicle and three others were cited for vehicle code violations such as driving with an open alcoholic beverage container. Two vehicles were also towed.
Funding for the checkpoint came from the state’s Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
