A stretch of an Encinitas road was blocked, a woman was arrested and a residence sustained moderate smoke damage in an apparent family dispute that resulted in attempted arson Wednesday, July 12, authorities reported.
Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station in Encinitas responded to a call of smoke coming from a residence just after 2:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Via Terrassa, off Via Molena not far from the station, according to a Sheriff’s Department report.
Firefighters arrived and put out a small fire in the residence, located in a neighborhood of apartment buildings. The fire was contained to one room and the dwelling sustained moderate smoke damage, authorities stated.
A portion of Via Molena, a street connecting El Camino Real and Via Cantebria, was blocked for a time as emergency vehicles lined the road and investigators sought the woman they suspected to be involved with the arson.
Deputies learned that the woman, who authorities identified as Stacey Eaton, 42, had been involved in an argument with her parents before allegedly setting fire to the parents’ residence, the Sheriff’s Department report stated. No one was home at the time of the blaze.
Authorities found Eaton several hours later hiding a couple of blocks away from the residence, according to the report. She was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of arson, elder abuse and a restraining order violation.
