Supermarket chain ALDI is set to formally open its Encinitas store on June 27.

A soft opening is scheduled the day before, according to ALDI’s U.S. website. The location is one of two launching this month in the San Diego region. A Mira Mesa store opened June 13.

Based in Germany, the grocer is known for its discount pricing and no-frills approach. The Encinitas and Mira Mesa stores bring the total number of outlets in San Diego to eight. North County locations include one in Vista and two in Escondido.

The Encinitas location, at 333 N. El Camino Real, formerly housed Big Lots, Best Buy and Circuit City stores. The building’s exterior and interior were completely remodeled for ALDI’s brand.

ALDI’s parent two companies have more than 10,000 outlets in total across Europe, Australia, China and the U.S. The companies, founded by two brothers, are collectively branded under the ALDI name. Grocer Trader Joe’s, which has a store in Encinitas, also has ties to one of the ALDI companies.
