U-T San Diego, the daily newspaper that purchased a group of weeklies in the region late last year, has announced the impending launch of the Encinitas Advocate.
The announcement was made in the La Jolla Light, according to its digital edition made public this morning, April 23, ahead of its street distribution date of April 24. U-T San Diego already has a Web page reserved for the new paper at www.utsandiego.com/encinitasadvocate, stating: “This site is coming soon!”
The new weekly Encinitas newspaper is part of U-T Community Press (orignially billed as U-T Community News), which was formed last year and publishes weekly papers from La Jolla and Poway to Rancho Santa Fe and Solana Beach. Starting with its April 17 edition, the La Jolla Light began billing itself as “An edition of U-T San Diego,” which is owned by developer Douglas Manchester.
“Kudos to our owner and publisher ‘Papa Doug’ Manchester, whose commitment to providing quality journalism extends to wrapping it up in a package favored by its audience,” U-T Community Press Vice President Phyllis Pfeiffer said in the front-page announcement available online. “His dedication to local news will become even more evident in June, when the La Jolla Light adds a sister publication in Encinitas, the Encinitas Advocate, our newest community newspaper serving Encinitas, Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Leucadia and Olivenhain. Happy reading!”
