Train service north from Oceanside has been halted as of Wednesday, Jan. 24, after debris fell on tracks in San Clemente, Metrolink and Amtrak announced.
The closure is indefinite, according to rail officials.
Rail travel has been disrupted several times along the coastal tracks since 2022 because of landslides. This latest slide occurred after heavy rains saturated the region from Jan. 20 to 23.
The slide left a portion of the Mariposa Trail Bridge in San Clemente dangling near the tracks. The portion was removed on Thursday.
“There is no set timeline as to when the tracks will reopen or when rail service will resume,” Metrolink stated in an alert. “Metrolink track and engineering teams are working collaboratively with OCTA and City of San Clemente officials to ensure the right of way is safe.”
