MainStreet Oceanside announces a call for artists for a new public art project at the Oceanside Transit Center. The opportunity is part of MainStreet Oceanside’s Art That Excites Program, which seeks to enhance the cultural and visual landscape of downtown Oceanside.
We will be tested after the election — no matter how we voted — to keep the faith. We will be called to not only foster life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but open our hearts to those whose pathways intersect ours, and encourage them to walk with heart, even when others try to appeal to the baser instincts of hatred, lust, anger and cruelty.
“Red Blooded,” a provocative, award-winning short film about school board intrigue, bullying and self-reflection — ripped right from the climate of recent political and social conflicts — will screen during San Diego Film Week on Nov. 9 after winning three trophies at the 2024 San Diego Film Awards.
August saw the opening of the Pacific View Arts Center in downtown Encinitas after nearly a decade of work to rehabilitate the former elementary school site.
The Pacific View Arts Center, located in the buildings once occupied by an elementary school of the same name, opens Tuesday, Aug. 6, with a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. and open house from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A second open house is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10.

In keeping with the street fairs’ opportunities for community connections, local business support, live entertainment and food, the region’s local farmers markets look to sunnier days with their offerings this spring as well.
The historic Sunshine Brooks Theater in downtown Oceanside will be the place for comedy on Monday, April 1, during a family event in support of the Lived Experiences youth prevention program.
Registration is now open for the Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego’s weeklong summer art camps June 17 to Aug. 2 at its locations in Encinitas and Balboa Park.
