Carlsbad City Council member Teresa Acosta is on track to win another term as an update to the city’s property-acquisition spending limit appears to have the support of voters, according to unofficial Election Night returns from Nov. 5.
Measure B, a proposition placed on the ballot by the City Council in June that, would update current Proposition H’s property acquisition spending limit from $1 million to $3.09 million, adjust the limit annually on Jan. 1 based on the percentage increase in the region’s Construction Cost Index, and exempt public safety facilities from the limit.
Early unofficial results show that Measure B is headed for approval 53.15% to46.85%, or 23,004
votes to 20,274 votes. The measure needs a simple majority to pass.
In the race for Carlsbad City Council District 2, Kevin Shin was ahead of Tyler Collins 57.12% to 42.88%, or 5,779 votes to 4,338 votes.
In the District 4 race, incumbent Teresa Acosta was ahead of Greg Day 55.20% to 44.80%, or 6,622
votes to 5,375 votes.
Four candidates are vying for city treasurer, a position currently held on an interim basis by Carlsbad Finance Director Zach Korach. The vote count as of Tuesday night:
✔ Christian Peacox: 10,574 votes, 28.43%
✔ Gregorio Kahn: 9,488 votes, 25.51%
✔ Thomas Krouse Jr.: 9,096 votes, 24.46%
✔ Michael J. Williams: 8,034 votes, 21.60%
The next updates of election results are expected by 6 p.m. between Nov. 7-9, according to the registrar.
