Residents and visitors driving through coastal Carlsbad can expect some traffic delays in the area of Carlsbad Boulevard near Cannon Road for about a year as the city works to replace aging water and sewer lines.
Water mains are being replaced in the Terramar neighborhood, which were first upgraded between 1958 and 1971, according to an Oct. 2 city news release. The work is part of the larger Terramar Area Coastal Improvement Project, which will eventually bring road, pedestrian and bluff improvements to the area.
Construction will take place weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. now through late 2025, with a pause next summer during peak traffic season, the city stated. Parking will be limited during the work, and the city will place signs in no-parking zones. Bike lanes in the area will also be closed.
Traffic disruptions will occur along Carlsbad Boulevard from Manzano Drive north to Cannon Park and on Cannon Road east to the railroad tracks, according to a city map.
The work is being done within the Carlsbad Municipal Water District, which is one of three districts that cover the city. Portions of southeast Carlsbad are served by Olivenhain Municipal and Vallecitos water districts.
