A man was struck and killed by a Coaster train in downtown Carlsbad on Tuesday, March 5, the second such death in the city this year.
The incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. north of the Carlsbad Village train station near the Coast Highway bridge, according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department report. Carlsbad police and fire-paramedic units found the man, who was not identified. He did not survive his injuries.
The Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit, which investigates such cases along North County Transit District routes, continues to look into the incident. Those who might have information about the case can call the Sheriff’s Department’s non-emergency line at 858-565-5200.
It’s the second death along the downtown Carlsbad tracks this year. On Jan. 15, a man was killed when he was hit by an Amtrak train near the Carlsbad Village Station.
The incident is also one among several that have occurred in the first three months of the year along local rail lines. In Vista, there have been two deaths along Sprinter rail routes. On Feb. 4, a man was struck and killed between Vista Village Drive and Guajome Street just before 5 a.m. Then on Feb. 29 just after 9 a.m., a man was struck and killed by a westbound Sprinter train near the intersection of Main Street and South Santa Fe Avenue.
