Regenerative orthopedic innovator Advanced Biologics, based in Carlsbad, recently completed a merger with orthobiologic firm Isto Biologics earlier this month, the companies announced.
The companies’ partnership since 2020 and their common development and production of bone-graft and related products factored into their joining, according to company leaders. Advanced Biologics markets its products commercially under the Biologica name.
Orthobiologics are part of regenerative medicine and refer to the use of natural materials to enhance orthopedic repair and healing, according to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
“We are thrilled for our entire Advanced Biologics/Biologica team to join forces with Isto Biologics,” Advanced Biologics President Amit Govil said in an Oct. 18 news release. “This merger brings together the clinical, commercial, and research-driven expertise of both companies’ and a shared commitment to help patients heal faster.”
Advanced Biologics has partnered with Isto Biologics since 2020 related to Isto’s SPARC integrative bone matrix, according to the companies. SPARC stemmed from Advanced Biologics’ proprietary OsseoGEN tissue processing method.
“With this merger, our combined team is now elevated with greater clinical expertise and deeper customer support to provide our surgeon champions with the best products available on the market,” Isto Biologics CEO Don Brown said in the news release.
Isto Biologics is based in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
