A weather service advisory will remain in effect through noon Thursday, Feb. 27, as Santa Ana winds whipped through San Diego County starting early Wednesday morning.

Winds hit upward of 50 mph in areas of the North Coast such as Encinitas, where a tree fell on a home but resulted in no injuries. A record-setting wind gust of 106 mph was measured at Sill Hill southwest of Julian, with winds elsewhere in East County peaking above 70.

Encinitas’ high temperature hit 77 on Wednesday, with temperatures likely higher Thursday, according to a National Weather Service forecast.

Afternoon winds along the North Coast had lightened late Wednesday afternoon to between 10 and 15 mph, according to San Diego Gas & Electric’s weather monitoring site.

The current wind advisory affects inland valleys and farther east, with sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts to 50 mph. Lighter winds are predicted for the coast.
