Residents of San Diego County were jolted by a 5.2 earthquake Monday, April 14, at 10:08 a.m.
The quake was followed by several smaller quakes of smaller magnitude, United States Geological Survey’s live earthquake reporting site showed. Early reports stated it was likely centered on the Elsinore Fault about 2.5 miles south of Julian, near San Diego Country Estates. It was felt through much of the county, north to Los Angeles and south of the U.S.-Mexico border. There had been a 3.3-magnitude foreshock Sunday.
North County Transit District reported at 10:48 a.m. that Coaster and Sprinter rail services are operating at reduced speeds and that riders should expect delays. Lines serving Metrolink rail service between Oceanside and San Clemente are closed for track inspections, with updates directed to Metrolink’s social media accounts. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reported that it had not received any reports of damage or injuries as of 10:52 a.m.
Aftershocks ranging from magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 followed between 10:10 a.m. and 10:14 a.m. The USGS map showed a 3.5-magnitude quake occurred near Borrego Springs at 10:12 a.m.
