An Encinitas sales tax measure appears headed for defeat as a school district bond proposal barely reached its 55% threshold for success, unofficial Nov. 5 Election Night results from the San Diego Registrar of Voters indicate.
Measure K, approved for the ballot by the City Council in May, calls for a 1 cent-per-dollar general sales tax to go toward city services and maintenance. As of Tuesday night, “no” notes were exceeding approval 52.07% to 47.93%, or 13,204 votes to 12,155 votes. The measure required a simple majority to pass.
The Encinitas Union School District’s Measure Z, which seeks $158.3 million for campus renovations and modernization, barely hit its 55% required approval threshold as of Tuesday night. “Yes” votes reached 55.68%, or 16,563, while “no” votes reached 44.32%, or 13,182.
The next updates of election results are expected by 6 p.m. between Nov. 7-9, according to the registrar.
