Oceanside police made two arrests in connection with recent baseball bat attacks that occurred at the city’s harbor area, authorities announced Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Authorities continue to investigate at least four assaults involving the use of baseball bats that occurred Aug. 17 at Oceanside Harbor. Five suspects have been identified, leading to the two arrests in Vista, according to an Oceanside Police Department report.
A follow-up investigation by Oceanside Police Department gang detectives identified the five suspects, authorities stated. The incident is believed to be gang-motivated.
Oceanside police identified the two suspects arrested without incident Sept. 3 as Jorge L. Perez of Vista and Pablo F. Gonzalez of Oceanside. They were booked into the Vista Detention Facility, authorities stated.
On Aug. 17, authorities received calls at about 8:50 p.m. that suspects were attacking people at 1400 N. Harbor Drive, according to a Police Department report. Witnesses told authorities that two men wearing bandanas covering their faces were assaulting several men with baseball bats.
Victims suffered serious head injuries, such as lacerations and a facial fracture, the Oceanside Police Department reported. The department stated at the time that it had located a vehicle linked to the suspects.
