The Vallecitos Water District has opened applications for scholarships to local high school and college students, the San Marcos-based agency recently announced.
High school seniors and students from Palomar College and California State University San Marcos can apply for the scholarships, awarded in amounts of up to $2,000, now through March 29.
Eligible applicants must live or go to school in the Vallecitos Water District’s service area, which covers San Marcos, Lake San Marcos, parts of Carlsbad, Escondido and Vista, and unincorporated areas in North San Diego County.
The scholarship program aims to encourage students to learn about water-related issues affecting their communities, according to a Vallecitos news release. Interested students must include the following in their applications:
✔ An essay.
✔ A personal statement about their background and goals.
✔ Information about community involvement or volunteer service.
✔ A financial needs worksheet.
✔ Letters of recommendation from faculty or associates.
The application package, which is due by 5 p.m. Friday, March 29, can be downloaded from vwd.org. More information is available by contacting Chris Robbins at 760-752-7120 or crobbins@vwd.org.
