A woman died after being hit by a pickup truck in San Marcos on Thursday, Jan. 18, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The incident occurred at about 7:40 p.m. when the 66-year-old woman, who has not been identified by authorities, was walking northbound in a crosswalk at the intersection of Las Posas and Mission roads and near the Palomar Sprinter Station, according to a Sheriff’s Department report. The woman was struck by a gray Toyota Tacoma driven by a 61-year-old man who was headed westbound in the 1100 block of West Mission Road.
The driver stopped at the scene and contacted authorities, the Sheriff’s Department reported. Another driver stopped and attempted life-saving efforts on the woman, but she died at the scene. Paramedics from the San Marcos Fire Department were also called to the scene.
The Sheriff’s Department and county Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the incident. Authorities did not suspect that drugs, speed or alcohol were involved.
