Parts of Encinitas were without power as of Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, as strong Santa Ana winds moved into the area, according to San Diego Gas & Electric and city officials.

Although the utility’s online outage map showed a pin over Rancho Santa Fe as of 10:50 a.m., portions of Encinitas were on SDG&E’s updated list of public safety outages.

“SDG&E has announced that some Encinitas customers will experience public safety power shutoffs today lasting until 6 p.m. on Oct. 31st,” Encinitas city officials stated in a tweet at 9:10 a.m.

More than 25,000 power customers throughout the county were without power as of SDG&E’s morning update, with North County communities such as Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Rancho Bernardo, Escondido, Fallbrook and Poway included on the list. San Marcos is on the list of potential cuts.

A National Weather Service Red Flag Warning is in effect for the San Diego region. The warning runs 11 p.m. now through 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. Wind speeds for north coastal areas including Encinitas could reach 20 to 30 mph, according to the Weather Service.
