Lake Drive in Encinitas has reopened after months of work to repair a large sinkhole that developed during heavy rains in March, the city announced Wednesday, July 12.
The Cardiff neighborhood road, which reopened at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, had been closed to traffic between Wales and Sea Village drives since the end of February, with a detour through Crest Drive.
Completion of repairs had originally been expected by the end of April, then mid-June, according to city updates, but continued growth of the sinkhole, caused by a drainage issue and exacerbated by the winter and spring’s unusually heavy rainy season, caused setbacks.
