Stormy weather halts Coaster rail service at Encinitas
March 1, 2023
The North County Transit District reported disruptions to its Coaster commuter train service through Encinitas on Wednesday, March 1, as stormy weather whipped through San Diego.
“Expect significant disruption to services due to a downed tree blocking the tracks in the Leucadia area,” NCTD reported at 2:20 p.m. on its Twitter service alert account. “We will be updating this stream with updates and instructions for passengers.”
Breeze bus service was being utilized to handle the delays, the agency reported. Trains were back in service later in the afternoon as crews worked quickly to remove the large eucalyptus tree.
A few hours earlier, at about 10 a.m., NCTD posted a stoppage at the Solana Beach station after an obstruction — a wind-bent automatic crossing barrier — was reported at the Encinitas commuter station.
Local social media posts showed photos of the damaged crossing barrier.
