Authorities are investigating two reported physical altercations in the Vista High School varsity football locker room, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department announced Sept. 13.

The Vista Sheriff’s Station is looking into the incidents, which authorities said happened on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Sheriff’s detectives determined that a sexual assault did not occur, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

A video of one of the incidents, which has been circulating on social media, was provided to detectives.

“(The video) shows a teenage boy being forcefully pushed to the ground,” the Sheriff’s Department stated in its report. “The boy was not hurt and did not require medical attention.”

In wake of the reports and Sheriff’s Department investigation, Vista High School Principal David Jaffe sent a letter to parents. In addition to law enforcement’s investigation, the Vista Unified School District has hired outside assistance to look into the reported incidents, Jaffe stated.

“The District has retained an outside investigator who will begin interviewing witnesses on Monday, September 12, 2022,” Jaffe wrote. “Once the investigation is completed, we will take action based on the findings and our policies.”

The reports are alleged to be tied to the school’s football program. In his letter, Jaffe stated that he would personally discuss the situation with the coaches and players.

“I, David Jaffe, will speak directly with all levels of the football program clearly articulating the expectation that they WILL treat each other and their fellow classmates with respect,” Jaffe wrote. “Additionally, I will address the expectation that absolutely no bullying behavior will be tolerated.”

The names and ages of victims and suspects are not being released they are minors.
