San Diego CA— The National Multiple Sclerosis Society in San Diego will be the beneficiary of proceeds from the “Wave Goodbye to MS, Paddle for a Cure III,” a fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Ocean Beach Veterans Plaza Park, 5099 Newport Ave., San Diego, at the corner of Abbott Street and Newport Avenue, just south of the main lifeguard station.
The fundraiser is expected to feature hundreds of people on surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, canoes, kayaks or inflatables following a 1.25-mile course around the Ocean Beach Pier starting at 11 a.m.
 
Donation to participate is $35 per person. Proceeds will benefit MS research and programs and services for people with MS. Registration and event information are available at www.WaveGoodbye.org.
Following the estimated hour-long paddle ride, additional activities as part of the beach party festival will include opportunity drawings and live music from Point Loma band “Mother Grundy.” Food will be provided by Hodad’s restaurant. Emcee at the event will be Jeff Zevely, reporter with KFMB-TV/CBS8. Also planned are appearances by legendary surfers Robert “Wingnut” Weaver, Guy Takayama and Roger Jeffrey.
Event organizers include childhood friends and Point Loma High School graduates Mitch Murphy, Barry Einstoss and Todd Smith, who are organizing the fundraiser on behalf of their friend Steve Bettis, who was diagnosed with MS in 2006. The previous two “Wave Goodbye to MS” fundraisers have generated more than $50,000.
