Thanks to its abundant resources of water and wood from around Mount Fuji, Fuji city has develop into a leading paper manufacturing town. Since the Meji period the integration of the supply of those raw materials and modern technology made Fuji city grow into the ultimate domestic market leader of specialty sanitary paper such as tissue and toilet paper.
Fuji city is not only producing paper for industrial purposes but also trying to expand activities related to culture and art. One of those activities is the ‘Paper art festival’. Art works using paper from all over Japan are being exhibited in a traditional Japanese style building. This unique exhibition will be held for the 8th. time this year.
A new initiative is in the works for a new permanent museum. It will be a place that encourages paper art and culture designed for citizens, artists and tourists to interact with each other experiencing the culture.
