San Diego County CA— Explore Mission Trails Day is an annual celebration at Mission Trails Regional Park. The event on Saturday, May 21, 2016, is free and open to the public. Activities will take place in the Visitor’s Center, East Fortuna Staging Area and Kumeyaay Lake Campground.
The celebration includes dozens of activities for both kids and adults, including a rock climbing wall, mini mountain bike course, opportunities to experience close-up encounters with snakes, birds of prey and other animals, nature walks, moonlight hikes, as well as a variety of other activities. Additionally, in partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric, the event will feature an interactive display on electric cars. Food vendors will be present between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The day-long event celebrates local wildlife, ecology, culture and history. The event has many activities catering to children, including presentations from Ms. Frizzle, teacher from the acclaimed series The Magic School Bus, face painting and scavenger hunts. Other activities include guided nature walks, birding tours and arts & crafts stations. A “star party” scheduled later in the evening at 8 p.m. will feature a local astronomer giving visitors a tour of San Diego’s night sky at the Kumeyaay Lake Campground Parking Lot.
