Vista CA— A 56 year-old driver is at Palomar Hospital with life threatening injuries after a head-on collision in Vista.
It happened yesterday evening, Tuesday May 17, 2016, at 6:34 P.M. Vista deputies were dispatched to a head on, vehicle vs. vehicle, collision at East Bobier Drive and East Vista Way.
A preliminary investigation determined one of the drivers was driving a Peterbuilt truck and was stopped at a red light on East Vista Way facing northbound in the left turn lane. The other driver was driving a Toyota Solara southbound on East Vista Way in the number one lane. The driver of the Toyota drove towards the stopped Peterbuilt truck and collided head on into the Peterbuilt truck.
The driver of the Toyota was unconscious and had labored breathing.
The Vista Fire Department arrived on scene and transported the driver of the Toyota to Foothill Elementary School where the driver was then air lifted to Palomar Hospital. The 56 year old driver of the Toyota was admitted as a trauma patient to the hospital for life threatening injuries and remained unconscious. Alcohol was a factor in the collision.
