When officers arrived, they checked several homes in the area and narrowed down the residence of where the possible gunfire originated to 743 Sugar Pine.
Officers surrounded the home and attempted to contact the person in the residence by loudspeaker and knocking on the door for approximately 10 minutes before the occupant surrendered to police.
Oceanside Police Lt. George Darrah said they questioned the man and he gave consent to let officers search his home. Inside, police found a tactical rifle and some shell casings.
After further questioning, the resident was released and the gun confiscated. “Because no one saw the man actually fire the shots, we had to release him but for the safety of the neighbors, we are taking custody of the rifle.” explained the Lieutenant.
