Oceanside CA– On Thursday September 25, 2014 at 10:14 p.m. Special Enforcement Section detectives and uniformed police officers were conducting an undercover operation at Rookies Sports Bar at 2216 El Camino Real. The operation was related to possible over serving of alcoholic beverages.
The uniformed officers contacted two men in the parking lot of Rookies, who were drinking alcoholic beverages in the parking lot. The officers were in full police uniform and identified themselves as police officers. One of the officers told Ronnie Corral he was going to pat him down for weapons. Corral immediately pulled away from the officer and tried to run. When the second officer grabbed Corral, Corral grabbed the officer’s holstered gun. The officers yelled for Corral to let go of the gun, but a struggle for the firearm ensued. The officers and Corral fell to the ground where they were able to handcuff and arrest him.
Following the struggle, the officers found a loaded .32 caliber handgun on the ground. At that time they discovered Corral was a convicted felon out of Arizona. He was later booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
