Oceanside CA– The Oceanside Yacht Club held its annual Commodores’ Cocktail Party on Saturday September 6th, and used the occasion to present the Elizabeth Hospice with a donation of $26,000.
“I almost got a tear. That’s the first time I’ve said that number out loud.” said the yacht clubs Commodore, Janet Bessent, prior to the presentation.
The money was raised during the Oceanside Yacht Clubs’ Elizabeth Hospice Regatta held on August 9th and 10th. “I set a goal of $15, 000 for this year.” continued Janet “I wanted to push the amount we have donated to the Hospice over $200,000.” The yacht club had raised over $186,000 from the previous 11 years of the charity event.
Terri Manok, Staff Commodore and Chairperson for the regatta said the money is raised through entry fees, a silent auction and the ‘Skippers Challenge’. “People and companies donate prizes which are awarded to the Skipper who raises the most money for the Hospice” continued Terri “This year that honor went to Dave Albert and his boat ‘Serenity.’
Dave brought in almost half of the total donations collected for the 12th annual Elizabeth Hospice Regatta, over $10,000. Dave is also Port Captain at the Oceanside Yacht Club.
