Oceanside CA- MiraCosta College’s Hospitality Management Program offers excellent training for those interested in hospitality or restaurant management careers. Classes are taught by instructors with extensive industry experience. The program offers courses for students planning to transfer as hospitality majors to four-year institutions as well as career and technical courses that can lead to certificates of proficiency and achievement. Career options include front office, reservations, sales, marketing, customer service, and management positions in hotels, restaurants, theme parks, attractions, clubs, and casinos. This fall semester, MiraCosta is offering these hospitality classes:
HOSP 100 Introduction to Hospitality Management (Late start class, begins 9/2)
Oceanside Campus, Tuesdays, 5-6:20 p.m. and online
This course covers the functions and procedures, current issues, and career opportunities in the hospitality, food service, and tourism industries.
HOSP 110 Guest Services and Presentations (Late start class, begins 9/4)
Oceanside Campus, Thursdays, 5–6:20 p.m. and online
Students gain service and presentation skills expected of uniformed hospitality employees, supervisors, and managers when interacting on a professional basis with hospitality guests and colleagues.
HOSP 120 Hospitality Human Resources Management (Online, begins 8/18)
This course examines employment laws, discrimination, job design, motivation and supervision, employee recruitment and selection processes, training and cross-training, employee classifications, wages and benefits, and union relations within hospitality settings.
HOSP 128 Hospitality Marketing (Online, begins 8/18)
This practical overview of marketing topics affecting hospitality managers covers marketing techniques and marketing methodologies, sales, advertising, public relations, and promotions.
HOSP 134 Sustainable Facilities Management (Late start class, begins 9/2, Online)
This course examines how sustainable practices apply to the management and design of hospitality facilities, United Nations’ environmental guidelines, industry trends, and techniques to reduce expenses, increase efficiency, and ensure safe and sanitary operations that meet guests’ expectations.
HOSP 150 Purchasing and Cost Control (Late start class, begins 9/3
Oceanside Campus, Wednesdays, 5-6:20 p.m. and online
This course applies control to food, beverage, supplies, and labor costs, and it emphasizes operating budget, income and cost control, menu pricing, linens and supplies.
