Escondido CA– At approximately 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, officers of the Escondido Police Department observed a wanted subjected in the area of 900 E. Mission Avenue. The subject, a juvenile, was known by the officers to be a suspect in a recent report of an assault with a deadly weapon.
The officers attempted to arrest the suspect, who fled into a nearby apartment. The officers established a perimeter and because of the fact the suspect was known to have recently been armed with a handgun, SWAT was called to the scene. Several law enforcement agencies, along with SWAT surrounded the apartment complex around 7:45 p.m., and assisted in the standoff with the suspect. Residents living in the apartment complex and surrounding area were evacuated from their homes.
At about midnight SWAT made entry into the apartment and it was discovered the suspect had apparently fled prior to the establishment of the perimeter.
The law prohibits the disclosure of the identity of the juvenile suspect; however, the investigation will continue.
