Oceanside CA- The temperatures continue to cool a little but the weather is still perfect for watching surfers, browsing street faires and cruising art walks.
Champions will be crowned Scholastic Middle School Surf Championships
Twenty Nine (29) middle schools from up and down the California coast are here in Oceanside for the final day of the Scholastic Middle School Surf Championships. Young students are looking to be crowned state champions in 6 divisions: Boys Shortboard, Girls Shortboard, Boys Longboard, Girls Longboard, Coed Bodyboard and Overall Team. We will see some outstanding surfing from our San Diego schools, as well as, our other top middle schools from Orange County, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz 7:00 a.m., South Jetty.
Carlsbad Street Faire
Today, more than 100,000 people will hit the streets of Carlsbad. The Carlsbad Village Faire will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 4, 2014 Each year, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce hosts the faire in May and November. Now in its 40th year, the free event has grown to be so popular that it not only continually attracts people from all over Southern California, but also from other states. Some visitors even plan their vacations around the bi-annual event.
Just like at past faires, over 900 vendors will sell everything fathomable, including clothes, accessories, plants, household products, art, antiques and home decor. The international food court will once again feature more than 50 booths serving everything from Thai to Hawaiian cuisine. The children’s area will entertain youngsters with games, a super slide, a bounce house, a rock climbing wall, face painting and arts and crafts.
The Rotary Club of Carlsbad’s beer and wine garden will entertain fair-goers with a large screen TV and live bands. The Kiwanis Club of Carlsbad will continue its more than 25-year tradition of hosting a pancake breakfast at the Carlsbad railroad depot. The meal, which includes pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice, will be served between 7 a.m. and noon.
Grand Avenue from Carlsbad Boulevard to Jefferson Street, and all of the cross streets in between, will be closed for the event. To make parking more convenient, complimentary shuttles will run to and from the faire. Shuttles will pick up and drop off passengers at the Poinsettia Coaster Station and the northwest corner of Sears at Westfield Plaza Camino Real.
San Marcos ArtWalk and Car Club Event
The May 4th ArtWalk, sponsored by Old California Restaurant Row, will be host to 37 local artists. Visitors will enjoy an array of fine arts from North County artists and arts organizations, such as Alex Babic, Peirce Williams, Charity Wings and the San Marcos Arts Council.
The ArtWalk is a perfect opportunity to choose from unique and one-of-a-kind gifts just in time for Mother’s Day. In addition, the international mural organization, Art Miles will also be hosting an all ages mural project. The monthly event is held on the first Sunday of each month from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., now through October. The ArtWalk shares Sunday with a high energy Car Show and the delights of a local Farmers Market. Sunday’s events are free for all ages. Special offers on dining and entertainment will be available for a variety of businesses at Old California Restaurant Row.
