Del Mar- Friday, at 10:15 p.m., the San Diego Sheriff’s Department received a call of a hit and run collision at the intersection of Camino Del Mar and Coast Boulevard.
A 27 year-old woman, Rachel Anne Morrison of Encinitas, was walking with a friend eastbound across Camino Del Mar within a crosswalk. A vehicle ran the stop sign. One of the pedestrians was able to get out of the way but Morrison was struck by the vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene. She was transported by City of Del Mar Paramedics to Scripps La Jolla where she was pronounced deceased.
Based on evidence left at the scene, deputies, with the assistance of the San Diego Police Department, located the suspect vehicle at an apartment complex in La Jolla. The registered owner of the vehicle, 41 year-old Christopher Stockmeyer, was also located at the apartment complex and subsequently arrested for felony driving under the influence, felony hit and run and vehicular manslaughter. He was booked into Vista Detention Facility on those charges.
The collision is under investigation by the Encinitas Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit and Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team. Anyone with information about this case can call the Sheriff’s Department non-emergency line at (858)565-5200.
