Oceanside CA – Rain continues to be a factor on the roadways this weekend. Three people were injured in a head-on collision on Mission Avenue, just east of Airport Rd, shortly before noon, today. Witnesses reported a black Camaro traveling east on Mission at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control in the heavy rain, his car jumped the median and collided head-on with a mini-van carrying two people, which was traveling west on Mission Ave. The van was spun around by the impact, the driver was ejected from the vehicle landing in the gutter next to his vehicle.
John Smith, of Oceanside witnessed the accident “The Camaro was weaving in and out of traffic, going really fast, fish-tailing down the hill.” said Smith “It looked like he started hydro-planing when he got to the bottom of the hill and just smashed into those people in the van.” Smith said good samaritans went to the aid of all three victims of the crash.
Due to the weather, air ambulances were grounded and all three victims were transported to Scripps, La Jolla by ground ambulance. Carlsbad Fire Department assisted Oceanside Fire in the rescue and extrication of the driver of the Camaro.
The conditions of the victims are unknown at this time. The accident is under investigation but weather, speed and alcohol are all being considered factors in the incident.
