Oceanside CA- Skaters paid tribute, today, to Oceanside skateboarder, Michael Prince who passed away in July. Approximately 200 friends and family of the skateboarder remembered Prince with a Skate Jam at Bishop Skate Park, in Oceanside. The jam was to support and help raise money for the family, the Memorial Service and finish the work on a Pan Head motorcycle that Prince was near completing at the time of his death.
Prince, a sponsored skater for Asylum Skate, in Oceanside, was also a drummer, fan of ’80s Glam Rock and BENS Skate Krue member. “He was a progressive, most exciting skater to watch “, said long time friend, Lannie Rhoades. “Prince was a skate hero to people of that era, as well as people older than him. They all would look up to him.” continued, Rhoades. Thomas Eukovich, another long time friend said “Prince would always go out of his way to make sure you were comfortable in anything you were doing.” The original Oceanside Skateboard Park was closed by the City in 2005. Josh “Fisto” Carson remembers Prince staying at his home across from the pier and the original park, “so he could have a clean park to skate in the early morning hours.” The Oceanside Skate family turned out with love here today” said another longtime friend, Tyler Dingvell. Renee Johnson, Michael’s mother said she was overwhelmed by all the support and so thankful to everyone that turned out for the Jam.
A memorial service for Michael is set for Sunday August 11, 2013 at the North Coast United Methodist Church, 1501 Kelly St in Oceanside at 2:00pm.
