Encinitas CA— The sexual assault happened on Friday, September 17, 2021 [Link] in the 2000 block of Carol View Drive in Encinitas. A woman told deputies she woke up to a man sexually assaulting her. She was able to chase the man out of the apartment.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Sexual Assault Unit conducted an extensive investigation and identified the suspect in the case as Maynor Ricardo Funes (DOB 4/14/1989).
The San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Funes on Wednesday, September 29 after he left a residence in the 1400 block of Hermes Avenue in Encinitas. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility facing burglary and sexual assault charges.
While he was arrested only for this incident, anyone in the area who may have experienced something similar is encouraged to come forward and report it.
