Oceanside CA— Maria Romero was headed northbound on I-5 near the Santa Margarita River early Monday morning, August 9, 2021 at 4:10am. She witnessed a young lady suddenly pull over to the left of the fast lane and put on her emergency lights. “The driver quickly exited her car and ran towards a truck engulfed in flames. The amazing female Samaritan was dressed in a military uniform with her hair up in a tight clean bun. Also leaping into action was a young man who also ran over to help the man stuck in a burning truck”, wrote Maria Romero in an email to OsideNews
Once the man in the burning truck was safe, the young lady ran downward over the bridge to help another person in a car that flew over the embankment. “After speaking to the two great Samaritans, it turns out they are both US Marines” explained Mrs. Romero.
Mrs. Romero said the young man, identified only as Ethan, (last name or age unknown) is stationed out of Camp Pendleton and the young lady, Sara Paula Monroy Espinoza, is stationed out of Miramar. Both were on their way to work.
Mrs. Romero described what occurred after the incident. “Later, Sara asked the man from the burning truck what happened and he responded in Spanish that he was just driving comfortably to work when suddenly a car hit him, he lost control of his truck, it flipped and caught on fire immediately. As she responded in Spanish, it eased his mind a bit by saying that help is on the way. After helping the lady that flew off the bridge and making sure she was safe and breathing, Sara asked her what happened. The lady informed Sara that she fell asleep at the wheel but didn’t know how long she was asleep. The lady that fell asleep at the wheel had no idea that she hit another car and due to her state of shock she was unaware of what was going on just a few steps up the hill. Emergency vehicles then arrived and took over.”
Both Marines were reluctant to identify themselves. ” I firmly believe that this young lady deserves some recognition for facing danger head on. Not once but twice. I was unable to gather Ethan’s information because he needed to leave. I was able to gather Sara’s information because I demanded it from her.”
Mrs. Romero has purchased a gift and a gift card for Sara Espinoza as a token of her appreciation for the heroics performed by the Marine in the early morning hours on Monday.
