Oceanside CA— Write On, Oceanside! is an annual literary festival to celebrate and inspire local authors hosted by Oceanside Public Library and the Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF). This year’s celebration will be in person at the Civic Center Plaza and Courtyard from 10 am-2 pm and online from 3 pm -4 pm.on Saturday, August 28, 2021.
Listed below are some of the opportunities for this year’s event:
- Local Author Showcase and Book Fair – Are you an Oceanside author? Apply to participate in an author showcase for the chance to promote your work with the community.
Apply here: https://tinyurl.com/knvtb2uw - Writer’s Open Mic– If present at 10am, the first twelve authors to sign up with the open mic host, Leslie Clark, will be able to read their original work for 5 minutes at the Courtyard Stage.
- 6 Word Story Contest – Come up with your best bite size story for a chance to win prizes. For more information about the history of the 6 Word Story and to submit a story, visit the OCAF we site at https://ocaf.info/write-on. Deadline is August 19. Winners will be announced at the event.
- Writing and Video Challenge– Inspired by the theme “All Sides of Oceanside,” write 500 words or less of poetry or prose and record yourself reading what you’ve written. Oceanside is a diverse and unique place, be creative with the theme, keeping in mind that Write On, Oceanside is a family friendly event. Submissions should be in MP4 format, be 2-3 minutes, and can be emailed to oceansidepubliclibrary@gmail.com with the subject line All Sides of Oceanside. Submissions are due by Saturday, August 14. You will be notified if your video has been selected to be featured in a special online program by Friday, August 20. The challenge is open to Teens (ages 13-17) and Adults (ages 18+)
