San Diego CA— Episcopal Community Services (ECS), an organization that inspires children, empowers adults, and transforms communities by providing vital, high-quality social services that focus on early childhood education and development, homelessness, mental health, and substance use disorder treatment, has announced four new members to its Board of Directors: Megan Costello, La Monica Everett-Haynes, Ms. Karina Gonzalez, and Melody Quin.
Megan Costello has spent more than 15 years building and scaling client success and account management teams in venture backed, high-growth SaaS companies. Her experience spans entities developing data collection, analytics, and language-processing solutions across four diverse sectors – health care, social media, education, and nonprofits/philanthropy. Prior to her work in start-ups, Costello worked in consulting and as an English teacher in rural Japan.
Costello earned her B.A. in Spanish and Political Science from Wheaton College (IL), an M.A. in International Relations and International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and an M.B.A. from the University of Oxford – Saïd Business School.
La Monica Everett-Haynes is the Associate Vice President (AVP) and Chief Communications Officer for Strategic Communications and Public Affairs, housed in SDSU’s Office of the President. She has more than 20 years of experience as a journalist, communications professional, and higher education researcher and scholar. As AVP, she leads a creative team of professionals responsible for serving as the voice of SDSU. The team is responsible for editorial storytelling, media coordination, issues management and crisis communications, social media, video and photography, web communications, general marketing, email marketing, and government and public affairs.
Prior to SDSU, Everett-Haynes held progressively responsible experience over a 10-year period with the University of Arizona’s centralized communications team. She last served as Assistant Director of News Editorial, responsible for high-volume, high-impact content production and strategic regional and national media placement for institutional initiatives, undergraduate research, academic outcomes, the arts, humanities, social sciences, and education.
Everett-Haynes earned her B.A. in journalism in 2001 and her M.A. and Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Arizona.
Karina Gonzalez is a stay-at-home mom of two children, Gavin (6) and Kayla (4). She has been married to her husband Gabriel for 8 years. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, she worked for Wells Fargo Bank for 7 years. She started as a 20-hour Teller in Chula Vista, CA. After numerous promotions and relocating, she became a Branch Manager for Wells Fargo Bank in Tucson, AZ.
Gonzales has served on the ECS Policy Committee for the past 3 years.
Melody Quin serves the Junior Directress of St. Teresa Chapter of JDOK at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal in Del Cerro, as well as an active daughter in the senior DOK chapter there. She previously served on St. Dunstan’s vestry, taught Sunday School, and helped coordinate the ALPHA courses. She worked on the ECS Gala Committee for the past two years.
Quin grew up in a Navy family and remained in the San Diego Area where she graduated with a B.S. in Biology from UCSD, completed graduate work at SDSU in Industrial Hygiene and obtained a teaching credential in secondary education (biology). She has worked professionally as an Industrial Hygienist and as a high school science teacher.
Quin is married to CAPT Brian Quin, who is currently the Chief of Staff at ESG-3 (NBSD). They have three children – the eldest is attending George Washington University on a Navy ROTC scholarship; the middle child will attend UC Berkeley, and the youngest will start high school in the fall.
