Oceanside CA— After a year of hiatus, Tri-City Inline Hockey League (TCIHL), an Oceanside based non-profit organization is resuming its activities for children and youth in Oceanside-Carlsbad-Vista and surrounding areas between the ages of 5 through 17. And the honor of dropping the first puck at elementary school game (10 am) and middle school game (11 am) on Saturday, April 10th will be done by someone very special – a role model for boys and girls alike. Allison Era has played Division III Ice Hockey for the ladies team at NYU-Plattsburgh and won a national championship there. She’s also played inline internationally for Team USA and won several Gold Medals at the World Championships. The event – open to the public and a great photo and autograph opportunity for youngsters – is held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park’s roller hockey rink located at 4300 Mesa Drive in Oceanside.
Allison is thrilled to help bring attention to TCIHL, a developmental roller hockey league, which was profoundly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The league created almost 30 years ago for the betterment of community in Tri-City area of North San Diego County had to cancel Spring and Fall 2020 seasons and deal with refunds while having operational expenses to keep parents informed via a rather expensive score-keeping website, retaining liability insurance, still having to contract tax preparers, etc. In 2020, it lost 45% of all its players, who either switched to individual sports or even completely left California. TCIHL is now trying to re-grow its player base operating 100% with volunteer help and with very minimal player fees this Spring 2021 not offered anywhere else – only $20 per month – no experience necessary.
The very first inline roller hockey league in California sanctioned by USA Hockey, TCIHL offers two seasons per year (Mar-June & Sept-Dec) with clinics and pick-up play between seasons. TCIHL’s mission is to stress the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, scholastic achievement, integrity, respect for authority, and to promote the game of inline hockey in North County San Diego. To achieve this objective TCIHL provides a supervised program under the rules and regulations of AAU/USA Roller Sports. Admission for TCIHL clinics and games is always free to spectators.
