San Diego CA—The San Diego County Bike Coalition partnered with a number of local organizations to launch a month-long campaign on bike theft prevention, called Bike Theft Awareness Month. Throughout March, the Bike Coalition and its partners will host a series of educational YouTube live webinars to help riders in the region learn tips on how to protect their bikes or recover stolen ones.
There will also be a number of in-person Bike Index bike registration events throughout San Diego. Registering a bike with Bike Index helps riders recover stolen bikes by using a network of users who are alerted when a bike is reported missing. Riders who participate in Bike Theft Awareness Month events will get a chance to win a free bike lock.
Every year, nearly 3,000 bikes in San Diego get reported stolen, according to an article from San Diego Community Newspaper Group. The Bike Coalition wants to educate cyclists on ways to protect their bikes from theft by sharing useful tips, like using proper locks and registering bikes. The cycling advocates want to reduce the number of bikes stolen in the San Diego region.
