Current wins awards for news site, reporting, editorials

The North Coast Current has been recognized as one of the area’s best news sites by two regional professional groups in 2017.
The Current won first place online news site from the San Diego chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists over the summer and second place best news site from the San Diego Press Club this fall. The Current also won second place best news site design from the Press Club.
In addition, the Current was recognized for its reporting and editorial leadership. North Coast Current contributors won the following awards:
- Michele Leivas — Second place education writing from the Press Club; third place education writing from SPJ.
- Cam Buker — Third place news photography from SPJ.
- Lauren J. Mapp — Second place political/government reporting from SPJ.
- Ernesto Lopez — Third place political/government reporting from SPJ.
Publisher Roman S. Koenig received second and third place awards from the San Diego Press Club for editorials on Encinitas and regional growth measures. Koenig also won third place for an editorial on Encinitas Measure T from SPJ.
