Carlsbad CA— On July 23 at 7:26 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police and Fire Departments and were called to the 2300 block of Caringa Way to provide medical aid. It was reported that someone was hurt and needed medical attention. It was next reported that someone had been shot.
Police dispatchers provided medical aid instructions over the phone while officers and Fire Department personnel were directed to the scene.
Officers arrived in minutes and found the injured male in the courtyard of the complex with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Officers began to administer life-saving measures.
The Fire Department also arrived at the scene, took over life-saving measures and transported the male to a local area hospital where the 18-year-old male was pronounced deceased.
Officers were able to identify several persons associated with the incident in the immediate area. Detectives from the Crimes of Violence Unit responded and continued the investigation.
During their investigation, Detectives developed information that led to the arrest of two subjects. The first, a female juvenile, and the second, an adult male.
The 16-year-old female juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall for Manslaughter and Gross Negligent Discharge of a Firearm.
The male adult, identified as 19-year-old Gerardo Gonzales of San Marcos, was booked at the Vista Detention Facility for Felony Child Endangerment.
The identity of the victim will be released by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing. There is no further information at this time.
