Oceanside CA— The Oceanside Democratic Club (ODC) was officially chartered by the San Diego County Democratic Party Central Committee on Tuesday July 21st.
After eight weeks of determined effort by a few committed residents, there is now a group to represent the needs of the diverse Oceanside community.
Club Vice-President Robyn Goodkind stated “We started this club to give Oceanside Democrats a voice in local politics and policies. I’m honored to be a part of this grassroots movement .”
At their first official virtual meeting, ODC hosted Robert Jenkins, 1st Vice-President of the North San Diego County NAACP. He spoke about voter disenfranchisement and explained how club members can reach out to the community to invite greater participation in the electoral process.
Zack Beck, ODC President, talked about how this Club will “focus on getting Oceanside residents elected to City Council. Though we are a small part of a much larger community, local decisions have a greater impact on all who live here.”
With over one hundred Founding Members, a milestone has been reached and exceeded. Many individuals, including local attorney Donnie R. Cox, are pleased to participate. He stated: “My wife and I have lived in our South Oceanside home for many years and until now could only hope for a club to support. It’s about time.”
Oceanside has more registered Democrats than any other party. ODC has discovered an untapped population of Democrats who have not been actively involved until now. More voters are engaged in the political process and working to elect new faces to City Hall.
Open to any registered voter, ODC meets monthly and hosts special meetings on occasion. Currently building a website, more info is available on Facebook at “OceansideDems.”
