Carlsbad CA— Carlsbad Charitable Foundation (CCF), an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, today announced $124,389 in grants to seven nonprofit organizations with innovative projects that will advance the quality of life for more youth, families and unsheltered individuals in Carlsbad.
The 2020 grants mark 13 years of giving for CCF, which has granted more than $1 million to nonprofits serving the Carlsbad community. The application process began in October 2019.
“For more than a decade, hundreds of community members have joined together to invest in programs that advance quality of life for all who live, work and enjoy Carlsbad,” shared Justin Peek, CCF Board Chair. “Surpassing $1 million in giving to the Carlsbad community is a significant milestone for our members and a testament to the power of collective philanthropy in the region.”
CCF is supported by local philanthropists and businesses working together to improve the quality of life for everyone in Carlsbad. Since 2008, CCF has provided grants to more than 50 programs helping grow a more vibrant community so that families today, as well as the next generation of Carlsbad residents, have a place they are proud to call home.

The 2020 grantees include

Carlsbad Educational Foundation ($30,000)
The grant will help modernize the library at Carlsbad High School and maximize its impact as a hub for student and community interaction. The resources will transform the library into a collaborative learning space, technology-friendly workspace, student research lab and a community gathering place.
San Diego Zoo Global ($25,000)
The grant will support the STEM Careers in Conservation Program, which will provide 800 middle school students in Carlsbad with the opportunity to learn about how science, technology, engineering and math can be applied to solve real-world conservation issues around the globe. Through this three-part program, students will interface directly with conservation researchers, learn about the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, and practice solving present-day conservation challenges.
Autism Tree Project ($18,000)
The grant will support the Intervention Preschool Screening Program, which identifies preschoolers with language or motor delays so that families have the support and resources they need to assist their children as early as possible. Funding will allow Autism Tree Project to screen 500 low-income preschoolers at Head Start sites throughout Carlsbad.
ProduceGood ($15,364)
The grant will enable ProduceGood to build and cluster Carlsbad resources that will decrease food waste in the community and increase the amount of healthy produce available in the region.
Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education ($15,000)
The grant will help provide scholarships to high school students in Carlsbad who have overcome obstacles and are making a difference in their home, school and community.
San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum ($11,025)
The grant will enable the Children’s Discovery Museum to provide 1,000 kindergarten students from Carlsbad with educational art workshops through the Mobile Children’s Museum initiative. The workshops ensure that children in San Diego County have access to supportive educational opportunities while providing educators with supplemental resources to support their curriculum.
Showers of Blessings Carlsbad ($10,000)
The grant will provide critical health and wellness resources to unsheltered community members in Carlsbad. Through local partnerships and grant funding, Showers of Blessings provides showers, hot meals, free health clinic services and other assistance to Carlsbad residents in need.
