Escondido CA— On Tuesday October 23, 2019, the Escondido Communications Center received several emergency calls regarding a fight involving approximately 20 people at Grove Park located 745 N. Ash St. The incident appeared to be gang related.
Officers arrived on scene minutes later and located a 37-year-old male, identified as Mauricio Renteria of Escondido, lying on the ground and unresponsive. Officers began CPR until the Escondido Fire Department arrived and took over the life saving measures. The fire department transported the victim to Palomar Hospital for several stab wounds and trauma to his head. The victim died at the hospital as a result of his injuries.
Several people were detained and the investigation continued into the early morning hours of October 24th. Today, six juveniles, ranging in age from 14-17 years, have been arrested for the homicide. All six were booked into juvenile hall for the charges of homicide (187(A) PC) and the criminal street gang enhancement pursuant to 186.22(B)(1) PC.
Both gang and homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
