Oceanside CA—Oceanside resident Chris Geiler is once again the National Champion of Performance Wingsuit Flying! He took gold for the third year in a row earlier this week at the 2019 U.S. Parachute Association National Skydiving Championships at Skydive Paraclete XP in Raeford, North Carolina.
Geiler’s win earns him a slot on the prestigious U.S. Parachute Team—the nation’s most elite aerial athletes—that will compete at the 2020 World Parachuting Championships in Russia. He also recently won the bronze medal at the 2019 World Cup in Italy in August.
With the growth of wingsuit skydiving over the past few years, more skydivers are taking up this exciting discipline. In wingsuit skydiving, jumpers wear technologically advanced suits that are specially designed to increase their horizontal glide across the ground, allowing them to soar like birds through the sky at horizontal speeds approaching 200 mph. In the performance flying event, individual competitors are scored on their horizontal distance, flight time and speed as they zoom across the sky.
Geiler, 39, has completed more than 3,500 skydives and works locally at GoJump Oceanside.
Interviews with Geiler and aerial photos of him in action are available upon request.
The 2019 USPA National Skydiving Championships drew nearly 600 of the country’s top skydivers to Raeford for the biggest and most thrilling skydiving competition in the country.
