San Diego County CA— SANDAG is hosting a series of 45-minute webinars to discuss the 5 Big Moves. These strategies set the framework for a bold new transportation vision for San Diego Forward: The 2021 Regional Plan, which will enhance connectivity, increase safety and sustainability, and improve quality of life in the San Diego region.
The 2021 Regional Plan will synchronize the 5 Big Moves – Complete Corridors, Transit Leap, Mobility Hubs, Flexible Fleets, and Next Operating System (OS) – to deliver an integrated, world class transportation system.
SANDAG will host the next webinar, Critical Connections: Where People Live and Work, on Wednesday, September 25 at 12 p.m. PDT.
This webinar will explore where people live and work around the San Diego region and why this information is important to making data-driven decisions that address traffic congestion and create sustainable transportation options.
Through studies conducted by SANDAG, data helps answer questions about how the region can apply the 5 Big Moves to maintain and improve mobility, accessibility, and connectivity as the population grows, new travel choices emerge, and travel patterns evolve.
Speakers will discuss commute patterns in the San Diego region and how SANDAG data will help identify critical transportation connections throughout the region to support development of a bold new vision in 5 Big Moves. In addition, they will share thoughts on how housing and transportation challenges impact economic prosperity and our ability to attract and retain employers and talent, and the importance of regional solutions as well as specific solutions by local employers.

• Mark Cafferty, President and CEO, San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation
• Jack Farnan, Vice President of Human Resources, HM Electronics (HME)

Major is the Director of Data, Analytics, and Modeling and Chief Economist for SANDAG. In his role as Chief Economist, he is responsible for the agency’s short- and long-term economic and demographic forecasting, the region’s economic prosperity strategy, and impact analysis of regionally significant projects on the local economy. He has more than 20 years of private sector experience as a senior executive providing oversight and direction for the profitable growth of companies and business units. Major has served in leadership roles ranging from Vice President to CEO in startup to large companies with a focus on data, analytics, and business intelligence products and services.
In his role as President and Chief Executive Officer, Cafferty sits at the center of a unique collaboration of business, trade, community, and education leaders who have redefined the region’s economic development strategy, cementing the region as a key stakeholder in the global economy. He has spent more than 25 years designing systems to support career advancement and economic opportunity for American workers. Cafferty has served in numerous public sector leadership positions and has been sought as a consultant on workforce development efforts throughout the country.
Farnan is currently Vice President of Human Resources at HME, a diverse group of companies that designs, manufactures, sells, and services specialized communications, audio, and software solutions for a variety of niche markets in more than 140 countries around the world. Prior to joining HME, he was Senior VP of Human Resources at Mitchell International, VP of Human Resources at ComStream Corporation, and VP of Human Resources at ORINCON. Farnan has been actively involved in the San Diego business community, fostering the development of business leaders in the San Diego region while serving on multiple boards at UC San Diego Rady School of Management, American Electronics Association, UC San Diego Connect, and National Management Association.
